Demian DinéYazhi´ (born 1983) is a Portland-based Diné transdisciplinary artist, poet, & curator born to the clans Naasht’ézhí Tábąąhá (Zuni Clan Water’s Edge) & Tódích’íí’nii (Bitter Water). Their practice is a regurgitation of purported Decolonial praxis informed by the over accumulation & exploitative supremacist nature of hetero cis gender communities post colonization. They are a survivor of attempted european genocide, forced assimilation, manipulation, sexual & gender violence, capitalist sabotage, & hypermarginalization in a colonized country that refuses to center its politics & philosophies around the Indigenous Peoples whose Land it wrongfully occupies & refuses to rightfully give back. They live & work in a post-post-apocalyptic world unafraid to fail. @heterogeneoushomosexual
Failures, Trigger Warnings, & Creation Stories.
Addressing the violent & uninhibited legacy of european colonialism and U.S. imperialism, this lecture will focus on the visual, text-based work of Demian DinéYazhi´. From transphobic & homophobic violence to forced removal & forced citizenship to Indigenous Uprising & Land Back movements, we begin to recognize cracks of light in the dark, corrupt simulation of U.S. nationalism that will help to shape the foundation for Decolonial futures. We are already actively writing these futures into existence & we are the stewards of our own liberation.
